Emeritus Professor Jim Ward was formerly Registrar and Deputy President at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) and a Professor of Marketing for 30 years. Jim became the first member of NUIG's Department of Marketing, when he took up the Bank of Ireland Chair in Marketing in 1980. Under his tenure the Department grew to a staff of seven full-time academic staff. He taught at California State University, Hayward before joining NUIG in 1973 as a Statutory Lecturer in Business Studies. Professor Jim Ward has initiated a number of University / Industrial programmes with significant external funding. These include EU funded projects on strategic planning and numerous research projects for local and national organisations both private and State sector.
He is a Board Member of WestBIC, the official EU Business and Innovation Centre for Ireland's Border, Midlands and Western Region. On a Public Private Partnership basis, WestBIC has already invested in making the global standard of innovation support available in the region to local and international start ups, early-stage SMEs and wider stakeholder networks.
Professor Jim Ward also serves as a member of the ACE Acceleration Programme's High Level Advisory Board.
