John Hanak is the Director of Venture Capital and Funding Resources and also an Entrepreneur in Residence at Purdue University’s Foundry – a pre-incubation accelerator focused on commercializing university-developed technologies through startup companies. Formerly, he served as the Statewide Director of the Purdue Technology Centers, a network of high-tech incubators across the state of Indiana. He has held officer-level positions at a Fortune 500 metals manufacturer, a middlemarket machinebuilding company and a technology product development firm. Additionally, Mr. Hanak co-founded a technology commercialization and consulting firm – North Riverside Partners; and a small investment partnership – CN Associates.
Prior to arriving at the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana in 2005 and co-founding North Riverside Partners in 2003, Mr. Hanak served as President, CEO and board member of Digital Innovations, a Chicago-based technology product development and marketing firm. Before joining Digital Innovations, Mr. Hanak spent over 20 years in the steel industry and was a Vice President at Ispat Inland Steel, a $2.3B subsidiary of Ispat International (now ArcelorMittal), with responsibility for all administration and legal matters.
Mr. Hanak graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science degree and graduated with distinction from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago with a juris doctor degree. He has served, and continues to serve, on a number of corporate and volunteer boards, including Shure, Inc., Time Pilot Corporation, Legacy Capital Advisors and the College of Business Administration at Valparaiso University. He is a board member and recent past president of the Venture Club of Indiana and is currently the chairman-elect of the National Business Incubation Association.
