Philippe KERN is the founder and managing director of KEA. Based in Brussels KEA is Europe’s leading consultancy and research center on culture and creative industries. KEA helps territories managing cultural resources to deliver innovation.
Kern has 25 years’ experience in the world of culture, creative industries, public affairs and legal advice. He is a specialist in copyright, anti-trust and trade law. Philippe has led a range of research and strategy programs at European level, notably for the European Commission and the European Parliament. He is advising numerous public and private bodies on the formulation of strategies in the field of urban development, culture and audiovisual policies. Kern set up IMPALA in 2000 and the China Europe Culture and Creative Industry Alliance (CECCIA) in 2013. Philippe was former Director of Public and Legal Affairs of PolyGram and head of the IFPI Brussels office. He graduated in law from the universities of Strasbourg and Paris as well as the College of Europe in Bruges.
Kern is expert for the European Commission, European Parliament, the Council of Europe and WIPO. He is a member of the High Level Group Wallonia European Creative District and has been invited to sit on the Advisory Committee on the Internationalization of Shenzhen. He is also International advisor to fashion magazine “The Fashion World” in China. KEA was at the origin of many high profile international projects such as European Creative Industry Alliance (ECIA), Creative SpIN (Urbact), KiiCS (Art and Science). KEA has been active in China since 2008. It organized with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce the first ever European trade mission of creative enterprises.
