Ricardo is Lecturer in Design and Innovation at Lancaster University. He holds an MSc and a MRes in Industrial Engineering and completed his PhD in Design of Sustainable Product-Service Systems (PSS) at Loughborough University. His doctoral research explored how design can support small and medium enterprises to make a transition towards sustainable operations using a PSS concept.
During the last ten years Ricardo has worked on areas associated with sustainable design, innovation, and design management. Currently he is involved in a research project investigating the value of design in innovation in collaboration with Innovate UK and funded by the AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK). His research interests include the design of sustainable business models, the development of tools and methods to integrate sustainable principles in the early stages of the design process, and the study of the relationship between design and innovation.
