First AI focused incubator will open in the Netherlands
Lennard Drogendijk, director of EU|BIC Business Development Friesland and Inqubator Leeuwarden, founder of The Fryslân House, as well as former EBN Vice-President, has joined forces with Ioannis Katramados, lecturer of Data Science at the NHL University of Applied Sciences, to create IncubAI, the first business incubator in the Netherlands to focus exclusively on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

The incubator will be opening this autumn in the Kenniscampus in Leeuwarden, and according to Lennard, is the necessary facility for the Northern Netherlands:
“AI is unmistakeably a future growth sector with an unforeseeable impact on life as we know it. The momentum is now to attract the talent in this sector that can become the future fast growing businesses in this field."
In fact, Leeuwaeden is becoming increasingly attractive for startups, especially the non-EU. Inqubator Leeuwarden provides an excellent opportunity for non-EU startups to grow and internationalise since it has been selected for the Start Up Visa execution in the Netherlands, a Ministerial arrangement where non- EU startups can start their business in the Netherlands and get a visa for a year (extendable). After that year, they can apply for the standard business visa and get it easily, since they have been evaluated by the so-called facilitator. With the opening of IncubAI, this opportunity will be especially focusing on AI startups.
IncubAI expects to host up to 4 new companies this year in the field of AI, which is one of the fastest growing market sectors:
“Globally, initiatives are being taken to facilitate start-ups in the field of AI, one of the fastest-growing market sectors. It is important to support good ideas and help entrepreneurs turn concepts into fast-growing companies", said Ioannis Katramados.
